How To: Foam Clay and Alternatives

photo of orange yellow and red hello molding clay

Foam Clay is what it sounds like -- it is clay that turns into Foam once it has dried, the clay also dries to 1/3 of its original weight.

For us Cosplayers, most of our costumes are made from EVA Foam which consists of the following -- Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)
  • They are highly weather and chemical resistant
  • These materials have low water absorption thus, can easily withstand spills.
  • They are resistant towards chemicals.
  • It is flexible and durable.
  • These foams are usually non-toxic in nature
Foam Clay dries and cures into a dense foam product. It is great for adding detail and dimension to your foam builds. It can be sculpted or pressed into a mold.
Where can you purchase Foam Clay?
What if I can't afford shipping/import?
There's an alternative! It has been tested, molded and applied to EVA Foam for durability testing, cracking, weight etc. You can purchase these on Amazon and in stores.
Model Magic:  remains lightweight and somewhat flexible even when dry.

ParkWhiz, Cosplay Budgets & Discounts

Cosplay is an expensive hobby, I will just say that much. Best thing about it is that it doesn't have to be expensive! With some patience and determination, you can get your cosplay to any level you desire. Where does the expense in Cosplay lie? This could be many things ranging from Costumes, Commissions, Supplies, Comic-Con Tickets, Hotels, Parking and more! How does one manage and budget all of that? No Costume, No supplies? We all want something that sometimes we don't necessarily have resources for or don't want to break the bank. Closet cosplays are perfect in these situations because they take absolutely no effort and they're just as recognizable today. There is no right or wrong when going about this!! My go to website is   Carbon Costume which features a variety of DIY guides for Cosplay and Halloween Tickets - I don't usually opt for the VIP sections, I don't actually take advantage of the autographs or any of my favorite celebrities....
